Like us old guys like to do: I'm gonna tell you a story whether you want to hear it or not.
These are rips I did a long time ago on a Pentium 1, don't remember the processer speed but it came with 32 meg of RAM, (yes MEG) I put in a module to boost it to 96 meg. Had a 3.8 gig hard drive and Windows98 took up most of it so storage was a big problem. Only had enough space to record 1 or 2 tapes or lps at a time, then had to delete it when I had the cd done to make space for the next one. Used an external cd burner and burned all the rips to audio cds. It took forever, almost my whole 8 hour shift to edit the wav I recorded at home and burn 1 cd. Haha.
Why audio cds? Yes I could have converted to mp3s and been able to get more on each cd, but at that time nothing else would play mp3 cds. You could only listen to them on a computer. No home, car or portable player would play them yet. It was probably around 2005 that I got a combo dvd/cd player for my home system that would play mp3 cds. My 2003 van had a 6 disc cd changer that would only play audio cds. Finally my 2008 played the mp3 ones. Anyway as you hear you can always rip the audio cds I burned.
Also beta tested one of the first cd rippers AudioCatalyst. Thanks to John Delaney of the UK who gave me that and Goldwave. CD burner came with Nero 1 & Diamond Cut Audio Restoration Tools, I still use later versions of all of them.
